The Great Hall, Queen’s University Belfast

The Great Hall Queen's UniversityCome and join us for an informal event in the grandeur of The Great Hall.

This venue is easy to find and offers a glimpse of the history and prestige of Queen’s University. The magnificent panelled walls of the Hall hold a selection of portraits from the University’s art collection, creating a warm and powerful space at the heart of the University.

The aim of The Welcome Reception is to enable delegates to get together informally before the main Conference begins, for meeting up with old friends and perhaps making some new ones. Drinks and canapés will be served.

Tickets are complimentary with Full Registration but you MUST indicate at the time of registering whether or not you wish to attend. Final numbers are required a week before the event, so very late bookers may not be able to attend.

Belfast Pub Tour

Tuesday 14th June 2011, from 7.30pm

We have joined up with the best tour operator in Belfast to offer SOM ASM 2011 delegates the opportunity to be escorted from the Conference venue to 4 traditionally Irish bars or pubs where you may hear live music or tales of famous visitors, as well as sampling the drinks.

The tour will be principally on foot and will take around 2 hours. With this in mind, dinner has been arranged as part of the tour also.

Ticket price is £35 and includes escort/guide, 4 drinks and a 2 course dinner in the final destination.

For planning purposes, final numbers are required a week before the event, so very late bookers may not be able to attend.

Gala Dinner and Dance – Black Tie

Wednesday 15th June 2011, from 7.30pm

The Great Hall, City Hall Belfast

We have chosen Belfast City Hall as the venue for our Gala Dinner and Dance because of its ease of access, very central location and impressive, decorative facilities.

Our aim is to provide an enjoyable and stylish evening with a little Irish character, whilst offering the opportunity for networking, which we know is crucially important to ASM participants.

This promises to be a very enjoyable evening and we ask you to book in plenty of time.

Ticket price is £50 and is NOT included in the Registration Fee. Please indicate at the time of registering whether or not you wish to attend. Additional guests are welcome. Final numbers are required a week before the event, so very late bookers may not be able to attend.

Belfast

Belfast is an accessible city with an excellent infrastructure. The airports are just outside the city, with an efficient, frequent and low cost bus service to take you into central Belfast.

Belfast has a dizzying array of hotels, many of which are in a very convenient distance of the Waterfront, our Conference venue.

This is a compact city and getting around couldn’t be easier. Visitor attractions are close at hand, pubs and clubs are a short walk or taxi ride away and restaurants are on your doorstep. Hire a bicycle, take a jog in the park or just walk: Belfast has been named the safest city in Europe.

If you have time, why not add a day or two and maximise your visit to Northern Ireland? The Giant’s Causeway has been designated as one of the 7 Wonders of the World and is just a couple of hours from Belfast. It is also located in one of the most stunningly beautiful parts of the world with the Nine Glens of Antrim close-by and Bushmills Distillery – the oldest distillery in the world – just around the corner.

Belfast is a family friendly destination and fun is combined with interest in many attractions: W5 at the Odyssey Pavilion is a ‘powerhouse’ of fun and learning and the Titanic Quarter can give you as much information as you can handle about the ill-fated ocean liner. The award-winning Ulster Museum and the open air Ulster Folk and Transport Museum also provide interest and unique opportunities.

So, do come and join us for SOM ASM 2011. The Belfast welcome is something to be experienced at least once in your life.
