INTEGRATED CARE

CONTINENCE CARE FROM HEALTH PROMOTION IN PRIMARY CARE TO TERTIARY SPECIALITIES

INVITATION

On behalf of the Organising Committee of the 14th Annual Scientific Meeting of the UK Continence Society [previously the International Continence Society (UK)], I have great pleasure in inviting you to Birmingham in April 2007.

The Annual Scientific Meeting of the Society celebrates advances and developments in continence care. This established Conference provides a unique opportunity for all types of health professionals involved in continence care to meet and learn from the exchange of ideas. The programme comprises a mix of invited presentations and – importantly – a high number of free papers and posters via the Call for Abstracts, building year on year to enable us to stage a highly relevant meeting based on current and topical themes for our audience.

This year our Conference title is “Integrated Care” and via this theme we are keen to examine all aspects of care which our patients receive. To this end there are invited talks by Paul Abrams on interactions with government and policy development and the experiences of Abdul Sultan’s team in Croydon who were recognised as Hospital Team of the Year in 2005-06. By specifically looking at the links in the chain and the benefits thereof, we hope to look at some of the challenges that we face, the lessons that we should learn and the best way forward.

We have also introduced an evidence based workshop prior to the Conference to encourage trainees to learn how to appraise the literature.

This Conference will be relevant for physiotherapists, urogynaecologists, urologists, colorectal surgeons, geriatricians, continence nurses, continence advisors and PCT service providers. All those involved with the promotion of continence care from basic health promotion through to the specialist theatres of the tertiary referral centre will find this Conference useful.

We are delighted to be staging this important Conference in Birmingham. Our venue will be Birmingham’s flagship meeting venue - the ICC - which is one of the best in the world. We know that this venue will form a professional backdrop of top quality calibre. Of course, venues of this level come at a price and we are sincerely grateful to our sponsors for their on-going support, enabling us to run this meeting in this prestigious location, whilst keeping the Registration Fees affordable and obtainable to the range of professions within our field. Many of our sponsors have been keen to support this Conference from its earliest stages and their enthusiasm is very welcome and appreciated.

Birmingham of course has masses to offer visitors and our venue could hardly be more central and accessible. The Members of the Organising Committee are keen that you enjoy our city, without - of course - missing any of the educational programme! The social events are always an important part of the Society’s Conferences and with those from Birmingham having a reputation for enjoying ourselves, this year’s Conference will be no exception. Finally as we meet in holy week, don’t forget to visit Cadbury’s and get your Easter eggs fresh from the factory!

Please note the dates of the UKCS 2007 Conference in your diary and begin planning your material for submission within the Call for Abstracts process.

We very much look forward to welcoming you to Birmingham!
