It is with great pleasure that my colleagues and I of the Yorkshire Group of the Society of Occupational Medicine invite you to the wonderful city of York for the 2007 Annual Scientific Meeting of the Society.
As though York weren’t enough to tempt you to join us for this important meeting, we have formulated a busy educational programme based upon highly relevant topics and key issues that our profession faces. By way of our theme “Theory into Practice”, we aim to address the potential gap that there sometimes exists between the two. As you will see, a series of sessions will be staged on key themes under this main heading and our hope is that through excellent presentations, as well as maximum interaction from participants, this will be a very informative and useful meeting. Keynote lectures from experts, parallel workshop sessions, oral presentations and a poster exhibition will also feature.
Alongside our educational programme, we have also arranged social events which will showcase a little of what magnificent York has to offer. Be sure to pre-book your tickets for these events as some have limited numbers. Our Gala Dinner at the National Railway Museum promises to be a particularly special evening, with an opportunity to also experience a flight on the Yorkshire Wheel, York’s equivalent of the London Eye!
Our venue is to be the internationally renowned York Racecourse, which will provide us with airy and spacious facilities. Easy to find, with hotels nearby and plentiful on-site carparking, this will make an excellent venue for the 2007 ASM.
Alongside our Conference we will stage an Exhibition and we are grateful - as ever - to our sponsors and exhibitors, who help to keep this meeting accessible by way of supporting the costs of staging it.
Finally, I can only emphasise the beauty and appeal of York (which you may already be familiar with) but this is a city of endless historic interest and loveliness and we very much hope that you and your partner will join us for this important Conference, as well as to enjoy some of what the city can offer, perhaps even extend your stay.

It is with great sadness that the Organising Committee, on behalf of the Yorkshire Group, report the sudden and unexpected loss of Magnus, whose funeral took place in Raistrick on Thursday 3rd May.
Magnus was a much liked and respected colleague. He gave unstinting practical support over 25 years as a member of the Society, and in his role as Deputy and Regional Specialty Advisor for the Faculty also worked hard
There are many who appreciate having known Magnus and for the help he gave in his quiet effective manner. He will be greatly missed.
